Introduction

Life, fascinating as it can be, can also be pretty complicated at times. With all the roles we play, whether this is mother, wife, sister, father, husband, son, etc., it’s not often that we can—well, just ‘be’.

Which brings me to the reason why I wrote this book. It was Christmas time, when everybody was rushing about trying to decide on what presents to buy, what meat to eat, and frantically meeting work deadlines and the like. There I was, too, rushing around trying to please everybody—to be there to support others – whilst also having an art exhibition to prepare for.

The big day was drawing closer and then, BOOM! I had an unexpected accident which caused an injury to my back and I therefore couldn’t move around easily. That was it! I felt had no choice but to lay there still, feeling sorry for myself. As time went on, the more frustrated I became. Luckily, I did have help at home from my loving family. I dread to think what it would have been like if I hadn’t.

Eventually I did start to gain movement and began walking again, albeit very slowly. I was certainly learning the lesson of patience in a big way. I kept telling myself that this was happening for a reason. I wasn’t sure why, but there had to be a reason for it. There I was, going about my day, and then suddenly everything had changed. The worst of all was that I had to depend on others to help me do even the smallest of things. For an independent person that was a tough pill to swallow!

Then, one day, it suddenly dawned on me; rather than ‘doing’ at this point in time, I had no choice but to just ‘be’. That is what led me to start writing this book.

In a world where things can quickly get so complicated, why not keep it simple instead? This way we hopefully minus the stress and get to just ‘be’. I say ‘get to’ because, if you are wise and make things simpler, not only can it make it easier on yourself, but you won’t need to be charging around at a pace that’s not good for your physical or mental health. There’s no need for an illness or accident to take you out, since you get to a point where just being comes naturally to you. When it becomes that natural, you’ll wish you’d started the concept sooner. I for one wish I had done, but, hey-ho, we live, and we learn—and, boy, did I learn.

In this book, drawing from my personal life experience along with training in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Psychotherapy and Psychology, I have put together some quick pointers set out in bite-sized pieces to guide you. Please think of them as signposts, steering you to a path that helps you keep things simple, without overwhelm, so you can stress less. The best bit is that you get to just be.

Sound good?

Great! Let me show you the way.
