It’s easy to feel good when things are going smoothly and we merrily go about our day; but what happens when things go beyond our control and it feels like the world as we know it, is rapidly falling apart before our eyes, like the ground is opening up beneath our feet, what then? Furthermore, what can we pass on to others, what advice can we give our children and the future generation, while we are feeling so helpless or dare I say it, hopeless inside?
In other words, what measures can we put in place today to help minimise any negative impact, so we can move forward in our lives?
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s taught us to be flexible and somehow muster up the strength and courage within our core to keep us moving forward, albeit by taking baby steps.
So, what can we do when the only certainty we have is change?
Here are 5 things we can put in place that can help us minimise the impact on our lives and find that missing piece of the puzzle to help create a bigger, brighter picture of the world, or at least our little corner and version of it.
Get grateful
Look around and ask yourself, what am I grateful for in your life right now? It could be something small or big.
Be happy now
Find one thing you can do right now that makes you happy, this could be playing your favourite song or going for a walk, whatever brings a smile to your face.
Become grounded
Do something nurturing that requires your full attention. Like cooking a delicious meal or gardening, an activity you can easily get lost in, giving no thought of anything else other than the task in hand. This helps you to stay present and grounded in the moment
Show someone you care
Call up somebody and say hello, write a letter/email to a friend, buy a gift for someone. This will cheer someone up and could help brighten your day too.
Create a plan or vision board
This gives you something to look forward to and taking action helps you feel strong, like you can do something.
So, you see, there are plenty of great things going on in our little area of the world.
Sometimes we just need a space where we can turn down the volume on the world outside and tap into our own resources to remind us of how strong and we truly are.
So, the next time something ruffles your feathers, remember you are made of stronger stuff than this, and you can do hard things.
You can do this, and you are not alone.
