10 Tips to Help You Finish What You Start

by | Lifestyle, Mindset

We all have them, from passion projects, to crafting, ideas, things we are excited about at first, but then fizzled out for one reason or another.

But instead of wishing you had got round to it and finished the intended task off, imagine how accomplished you’d feel if you actually completed them.

Worry not, my friend. Here are my 10 tips to help you finish them:

1. Remember your why

Think back to how you felt when you first had that glimmer of excitement about starting the project in mind. Remember why you first started. This step is crucial to being the reason to keep going, even when you feel like giving up. So, go through this and reconnect with this pivotal moment.

2. Believe you can

Self belief in yourself and your abilities are the backbone of making it happen. So, start believing that you can achieve what you set out to.Get excited and use this excitement to help you build momentum and move forward, filled with the gumption to give it a go.

3. Less is best

Don’t take on lots of projects. While it may sound fun, with lots of ideas buzzing around your head, it can feel overwhelming.

Park the other ideas for the time being, maybe jot them down to explore later on down the road.

4. Focus on one thing at a time

I know, I get how exciting it can be to have lots of ideas going around in your head, but you don’t have to do all the things right now.

Although this may sound boring, it’s smarter to conserve your energy and your time. Don’t get distracted. This way you’ll have more to give to your project, which stacks success in your favour for completing it to a standard you’re happy with.

5. There’s no need for perfection

Too many people place the need to be perfect as a priority and are often left feeling deflated if things don’t go according to plan. If this is you, then do yourself a huge favour and take that pressure to perform off your shoulders. It doesn’t have to be perfect. So give yourself a break, regroup, and enjoy the process. This way, you’re more likely to make progress.

6. Have patience

Great things take time, and that includes the best ideas. You don’t need to do everything instantly, as much as you’d like to. Taking things at a steady pace means you get to relax and enjoy every step. Think of it like taking the scenic route to your destination and allow yourself the pleasure of absorbing every blissful moment. It’s not a race, it’s a journey, enjoy it!

7. Give yourself time

Give Yourself Time

Allocate a set time regularly in your diary. This way, it’ll feel like an appointment, which is a commitment to yourself. A commitment to following your bliss, even. Now what sounds like the kind of appointment I’d want to keep, wouldn’t you?

8. Be consistent

This may sound obvious, but consistency is at the heart of every success story. Taking little steps regularly works out more effectively than doing one enormous task now and again, only when you feel inclined to. You can’t rely on those inspired moments, but you can create a new habit, with the bonus of completing a task or having something to show for it at the end, whether that’s writing a book or knitting a scarf. Sure, inspiration can get you started, but it’s consistency that will get it completed

9. Make it fun

Make it Fun

Play music, while you do it, give yourself an incentive, I.e. a treat when reach a set milestone or do it with someone else.

10. Get accountability

Keeping motivated isn’t always easy. We all have days when we don’t feel like doing something, right?

But what f you had someone who is happy to ‘virtually’ take you by the hand and walk with you every step of the way, so that you don’t feel, well, so alone with it all? Someone who will guide you and give you some fresh perspective and honest suggestions to help boost your motivation and keep you on track. Kind of like a cheerleader in your corner to support you and remind you of what you are aiming for. Someone who will guide you to that finishing line and cheer you on every step of the way? That’d be cool, wouldn’t it?

Well, you can.

Book a free coffee chat with me here and let’s get you past that finishing line.

Go on, you can do it!

I believe you can

Let’s get it done.
